Our Therapists

  • Jeffrey Kiilsgaard, LICSW, LCSW, ACSW; Founder, Humanistic Therapy Northwest, LLC (he/him)

    My approach

If you are 18 or older and feeling depressed, anxious or feel you’re not handling your emotions well, I can help you.

Regardless of the gap you are feeling or experiencing, and even if you are experiencing psychosis, I can support you.

I founded Humanistic Therapy Northwest to offer compassionate support for the LGBTQIA2S+ community. However you choose to identify, I will help you to heal, thrive and grow.

Together, we’ll learn about your social and cultural context and how that affects how you think, feel and live—to help you find more meaning in your life.

I use existential-humanistic, DBT, and CBT approaches when treating folks who may struggle with psychosis, PTSD, and borderline personality disorder.

I look forward to serving you.

  • Sophie Newton, CSWA, LSWAIC (she/her)

    My approach

I will support you to become the best version of yourself. Together, we will explore the beliefs and experiences that have shaped who you are. These shaping beliefs and experiences come from our families, societal expectations, and feelings we may not fully express or understand. These patterns can leave us feeling stuck, self-critical, and helpless.

We will sort through how these expectations have shaped your self-perception, and you’ll gain skills to decide what to keep and what to reject. You’ll learn to distinguish problems to work through from those that reflect dysfunctional situations.

I specialize in working with young adults and adults, caregivers, those coping with a chronic illness, parents of special needs children, people in the early stages of recovery and their partners. I particularly support people in the helping professions to help mitigate burnout and moral distress.

I am also the parent of a special needs young adult and have supported family members who have struggled with mental health.

My approach includes a blend of these modalities:

    · Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
    · Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
    · Narrative Therapy
    · Collaborative Problem Solving
    · Behavioral Activation Therapy
    · Family Systems Therapy
    · Health at Every Size
